COMMUNITY GARDEN

FUA Edible Education and Environment Classroom

BY: Judson G

Groveland, FL

HOW WOULD YOU USE THIS GRANT TO HELP YOUR COMMUNITY?

We feel that the location of our Edible Education and Environment Center in Groveland location is ideal at it is in close proximity to an area heavily populated in low income families, homeless, and disabled veterans. By providing not just the space, but the education to go along with it, we can enable people to take those skills home and implement them in their own lives and neighborhoods. Urban Farming has its own built in challenges: primarily space, but city water and poor soil are significant challenges. We emphasize water collection, composting, and alternative gardening techniques such as vertical gardening, gutter gardening and using fences to your advantage. We will also teach traditional gardening, raised beds with square foot method, hydroponics, vermiculture, aquaculture and the benefits of food forests.
