COMMUNITY GARDEN

The Urban Farm

BY: Kristin F

Columbia, MO

HOW WOULD YOU USE THIS GRANT TO HELP YOUR COMMUNITY?

Planting for the Pantry provides fresh food to families in need and educates community members how to grow their own food. Poverty and food insecurity are hidden problems in Columbia, Missouri. 44% of Columbia Public School students are eligible for free/reduced lunch and 86% of residents do not eat the recommended fruits and vegetables every day. Planting for the Pantry pays for food to be grown at CCUA’s Urban Farm and delivered to hunger relief outlets in Columbia. Our goal for the 2017 season is to secure funding so that all food grown at the Urban Farm is donated to food pantries. A $30,000 grant would fund 25 rows (half of the farm) of produce at the farm and a $10,000 grant would fund 8.3 rows.
