Katie's Krops Flagship Garden: Pinewood Preparatory School

BY: Katie S

Summerville, SC

HOW WOULD YOU USE THIS GRANT TO HELP YOUR COMMUNITY?

A Seeds of Change community grant will be used to support the Katie's Krops Flagship Garden, located at Pinewood Preparatory School in Summerville, SC. which was started in 2008 by founder Katie Stagliano when she was 10 years old. Katie’s Krops is a non-profit organization focused on empowering youth to grow a healthy end to hunger in their community. Our mission is to empower youth to start and maintain vegetable gardens of all sizes, donate the harvest to help feed people in need, and inspire others to do the same. Katie's Krops provides the funding, support, and education to enable young growers to start, maintain, and harvest their vegetable gardens for donation to food banks, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, and backpack programs to help feed individuals and families in need in their communities. The grant funds will enable us to purchase fruit bushes and amend our raised beds with soil and compost to insure our plants have the proper nutrition.
